Climate talks in France reach no emissions goals
PARIS (AP) — Negotiators from the world's most polluting countries have failed to agree on specific goals for cutting emissions of greenhouse gases.
The French host of the meeting, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, says the 16 countries will hold two more meetings in May and June. They are working toward an agreement before a meeting in Japan in July.
Jouyet says differences over medium-term emissions cuts "dominated" two days of climate talks that ended in Paris on Friday night. He says no quantitative goals were set and cited differences between the U.S. and EU positions.
Participants have estimated it would cost $200 billion a year to fight the effects of climate change in coming years.
