Lawyer: Post-Katrina caretaker arrested in Texas

HOUSTON (AP) — A lawyer for a Texas woman accused of kidnapping five children she helped care for after Hurricane Katrina says she has been arrested.

Dick DeGeurin says 44-year-old Rhonda Tavey was arrested Thursday by the FBI while on her way to his office. She was being taken to the Harris County jail.

An Amber Alert had been issued for the children — two boys and three girls ages 3 to 8.

Tavey contends the kids were abandoned. She says the children's mother had been gone and "caused total chaos" in her house when she returned this summer.

State Child Protective Services is taking custody of the children.
